A Busy October at Club Torrevieja

October was a very busy month for Club Torrevieja. After the summer lull, we held our AGM that unanimously elected President Ron Blackwell to the chair, a new committee was formed, all of which enforced renewed enthusiasm for the future of the club. The first event for the month was on Sunday, 17 October a beautiful, sunny autumn morning, when eleven club cars set off in convoy, for the Oeste Park in Novelda. The setting was perfect for a picnic and for more adventurous a BBQ, if one was patient or brave enough to fight one's way to the 'pit'. The convoy attracted a lot of attention on route, traveling north on the AP7, before turning inland and passing through Crevillente and on to Novelda. We arrived at the park after a spectacular scenic drive over the mountains and witnessed many locals who waved and blew their car horns as the convoy passed.

The park is well worth a visit, with beautifully landscaped gardens, lots of waterfalls and sculptures dotted around the many shaded paths plus a million and one different types of plants to enjoy while sitting and taking in all the natural beauty that the park affords. Members and guests settled down for their lunch on the grassy terraces of the amphitheater, which can seat up to 2000 people! Lunch was followed by a quiz on the history and features of the park before packing up for the steady drive back towards Torrevieja, which marked the end of a great social day for everyone.

Club Torrevieja's annual dinner and awards presentations were held at the 'Veni Vidi Vici' restaurant in the International Marina on Sunday October 24. Thirty three members and guests met at the Marina Club Bar at 19.30 for an aperitif before strolling 50 metres to the restaurant for dinner at 20.30. An extremely good value three course dinner with coffee was provided and nobody went hungry. The 'Hand of friendship' award was presented to Maria , our Portuguese representative, the 'Trabant' trophy was won by Marcus our German co-ordinator and the 'Valued member' award was given to Joseph, an Italian member who delights us all with his rare Ferrari. All-in-all a very international affair and enjoyable night.

Alicante’s Largest Classic Car and Bike show this weekend

If you are at all interested in Classic and Specialist Cars, make sure you are headed to Alicante’s IFA (Institución Ferial Alicante) fairground, beside the Airport this weekend for ‘Antic Auto’, the region’s largest Classic, Vintage and Specialist Car and Bike show. The show runs from Friday through Sunday from 10:30-hrs until 20:30 with early closing on Sunday at 19:00 hrs.

This is the seventh year of the show and even in times of crises, the show promises to have something for everyone. You’ll find cars and bikes for sale, motorcycles and spare parts, clubs and associations, magazines specialized agencies and institutions; insurance companies, toys, antique and collectors' items, clothing and accessories plus custom made items.

One of the great attractions of the show is a collection of cars from private collections
in Spain. For those with classic or older cars, APPLUS shall also be located in the car park conducting reviews of vehicles, which can be of great benefit if you have the ITV coming up and would like to know what areas of your car, if any, might need a little help!

The show is organised by Club de Coches Clasicos Populares de Alicante and Asociación Coches de Epoca. Torrevieja Classics and Specialists Cars shall also be visiting the show along with many other local clubs from the region. Last year the show attracted over 12,000 visitors and our ‘tip of the day’; if you like to visit the show when it is less busy, do so during the typical Spanish lunch and siesta hours! Parking is free and within the exhibition centre you’ll also find a café, banking and other facilities.

The IFA is located at km 731 on N-340 state highway going from Alicante to Elche and only a few minutes away from "El Altet" International Airport. There is direct access to IFA at exit 72 of the A-7 highway going from Alicante to Murcia. There is an entrance charge but the best value for money can be obtained by purchasing a €20 IFA Card, which grants you access to 12-months worth of activities at the IFA. With the Lifestyle Show, Fir Auto, Mother and Baby, Exhibition of Furniture, Bridal and Celebrations, Tourism, Tuning Cars, Expo Car and others all planned for 2010, it’s great value for money.
